Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Art Tour

Who you gona call when you need to celebrate Ghostbusters 30th anniversary with a multi-city art tour?? Gallery1988 of course! Theyve handpicked 70 artists to make original work, as well as limited prints/shirts, that will travel over the next few months from: New York, to Los Angeles, then Chicago, and will end up at San Diego Comic Con.

There are a ton of great moments and iconic imagery to choose to highlight from this movie. The devil dogs were almost a given for me, since they creeped me out as a kid. Gozer is also pretty impactful, especially for only being on screen for a few short minutes.

I wanted the frame to be distinctly themed to the movie as well. I took some architectural elements from the building in the final scene, and pieced it together from about 60-70 pieces of handcut wood, then finished it off with a faux-stone paint job.

The show is currently showing in NY until April 26, and then will move on to the subsequent cities. The schedule can be found at Ghostbusters30th.com.

Total Recall piece for Crazy4Cult in NY

Gallery1988s Crazy 4 Cult is back on the East Coast this year in a limited week(ish) viewing from Dec 13 - 21! Also, on Dec 15 there will be a signing for the Crazy4Cult Book 2 which my 'They Live' piece is featured in. The pop-up location will be at: 355A Bowery New York City, NY 10003.

This year I wanted to pay tribute to my absolute favorite action star, Arnold Schwarzenegger!
I could pretty much watch anything Arnold did and find it hilarious and incredibly entertaining. Case in point:

The piece comes from 'Total Recall'.

It is duel-layered with the 'mask' face raised by varying degrees.

Big Surprise - 9x12 acrylic on wood

Im sure the show will be a crazy huge success, just like last years.
Ill be at the opening as well as signing.

Dead Lights - "IT" lights up for Horrorwood

WWA Gallery is paying homage to the horror film industry with the spine tingling show Horrorwood. Although I dont have a specific fear of clowns, Ive always been a Stephen King fan, and 'IT' definitely creeped me out and left an impression on my younger self.

Dead Lights
As with a lot of the themed pieces I do, I like adding an interesting aspect to them, so with this piece I created a strobbing light up frame. Check it out in the video below.

Crazy for Cult presents: Say Hi to the Bad Guy

Gallery1988 is paying homage to the baddest of the bad with an extension of their Crazy for Cult show: Say Hi to the Bad Guy. The show opens October 18 and runs till November 9.  Make sure to check out the nasties!
I chose Judge Doom from one of my favorite all time movies "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?".  I cannot stress enough the amount of respect I have for this movie or how much it affected me as a kid. It still holds up remarkably well. A scene that I vividly remember creeping my skin was the squishing and then revelation of Doom as a toon. In that vein, I made the eyes 3d to emphasis the psycho factor.

G40 Art Summit

Once again ArtWhino is putting on their humungous G40 gathering of artists, this year in a 'transformed' church. The show runs from Sept 13 - Oct 6 and there are numerous events planned throughout which you can find out about HERE.

In staying with the idea of transformation, I found an old relic in my basement that had been slightly damaged, and turned it into a more devious art piece.

Beer is Art: coaster show at La Luz

If yovue ever doodled on a coaster, or played with one at a bar, then you can appreciate the work in this show. La Luz de Jesus Gallery  brought together dozens of artists to decorate and embellish simple cardstock coasters into some really amazing art. Having a little bit of coaster experience previously, I was really excited to be invited to this show, and I came up with some 'eye puns' for it.

Show runs from Sept 2 - 29th.

'Semiotic Weapons' show and print

Arch Enemy Arts is excited to announce, Semiotic Weapons, a study of signs and symbolism by 11 artists who help define Philadelphia's new contemporary art scene.

The roster includes some the biggest names in Philly, NoseGo, Paul Romano, Michael Michael Motorcycle, Kukula, JoKa, Kat Gun, Heather Gargon, Robert Kraiza, Genevive Zacconi, Chris B. Murray, and David Seidman. Work covers a wide range of mediums from oils and acrylics, charcoal and graphite work, digital painting, sculpture, and tapestry, each piece representing the individual artist's exploration of signs, symbolism, and metaphor.

Also opening will be My Famine, a new collection of work by Scott Kirschner. Scott's work is evocative of old fairy tales; dark, magical, and full of hidden meaning. My Famine tells the story of his childhood, family, and upbringing, as is his largest and most cohesive collection of work to date.

The extra long show will run from July 12th through September 1st, kicking off with a free and open to the public reception on Friday July 12th, from 6-10 PM. A second evening event will also be held on First Friday, August 2nd.

I will have a brand new print of 'Overcast with a chance of Doom' available for the show, which you can pick up at the gallery or online HERE.

Cave show & print release

Have the pleasure of showing again with C.A.V.E. Gallery in a 4 person show along with Young Chun, Craww, and Meneera Gerald.

I created a brand new body of work for the show, that Ive collectively entitled "Disassemble Required".
The show is up at the gallery until April 1st, and the artwork can be viewed HERE.

To coincide with the show, there is a print of my piece "Some dont sleep and know our secrets" which is available at the gallery as well as on my Etsy.

PRINT

Forever speak is eternal
Running from a spinning world only leads to headaches

Every direction is interchangeable

Without you the night will tear me in two

Prey before slumber

Some dont sleep and know our secrets

Whisper a song of death and fear will blossom in your dreams

There is a very nice review of the show over on Cartwheel.

Breaking Bad Art Project at Gallery1988

Sometimes there are shows I get an invite to that make me tingle with excitement. This was definitely one of them. Although I came aboard a lil' while after the show started, I am a huge fan of Breaking Bad and was very excited when Gallery1988 asked me to participate in the special Breaking Bad Art Project presented by Breaking Gifs.

In coming up with my idea for the piece I knew that I wanted to incorporate some actual crystals. The tough part became finding the right kind of stones. I ended up using beach glass, which has a nice fog to it and isn't very shiny but couldnt find it in that particular shade of blue, so I wound up having to dye them; essentially creating my own little 'fake meth' production line.

Figuring out how to float the painting over the crystals was slightly troublesome. A system of spacers was installed, and then to cut down on the weight of the piece I individually glued down each rock instead of my original idea of just filling the whole back with them loose. I didn't feel to safe doing that though with the glass. The actual painting was done on board and then adhered to glass.

The final piece is titled "Baking Bad" in fitting with the 'cooking' of meth aspect of the show.

The Breaking Bad Art Project will be on display at the Gallery1988 Melrose location from Aug 20-26. Make sure to stop by this amazing show during the short time it will be on display.

And for the first time, WWA is having a Pub Crawl to coincide with the show, where you can get special show incentives depending on the amount of receipts you bring in from it!
